Spain goes back to his old "stomping ground", Buffalo, New York, for this violent glimpse of a famous rumble between the Gunners and the Fillmore Gang outside the Decco Coffee Shop, in 1954. The orbit space

It can be shown that the relationship between the xy-coordinates and st-coordinates is s = x + y and t = xy.

Sighting Gravity Following is a description of the "gravity sextant", which is a simple (though not very practical) device for determining the exponent of a spherically symmetrical force law of the form F = 1/r^c.
The sextant (or perhaps "quadrant" would be more correct) consists of a right angled frame subtended by a protractor, similar to a normal sextant. At the end of each arm of the right angled frame is a mass held by a spring in a slider. Both of the sliders are parallel to one of the arms, as illustrated below:
Oriented so that the plane of the sextant contains the center of the field source, rotate the sextant until the displacements of the masses in the two sliders are equal, and then sight the field source on a line through the corner of the frame, and mark the angle on the protractor.
The angle "theta" between the line of sight and the slider direction is related to the exponent c in the force law according to the equation
tan^2(theta) + (c+1)tan(theta) - c = 0
For example, if the angle reads 29.3165 degrees, then we have c=2, so we know the field obeys an inverse square force law. On the other hand, if the angle reads 22.5 degrees, then c=1, and the field obeys a simple inverse law. artbooks and art and artists so this is for Jack Micheline horse lover and storyteller but about Jack Micheline poet and writer and painter of the beat generation he did like to talk about horse and poets and food . i met him long ago at dick's cafe in san francisco . on the corner of sanchez and 16th . rick london introduced me to him . rick is the author of ' the bones in the road ' and was the weekend bartender at dick's it was there that i met most of the arists that i knew from san francisco , before i found out about mail art . rick introduced me to s. clay wilson and dave geiser and many others at the bar and at other places . so jack was part of this crowd , at least when he was around . we would sit and talk about things i knew not much about and they knew a lot so i would listen or b.s. . from all of this came my interest in art . the stories and the studies and the beer and smoke . so i bought books and drawings and chap books and other things from jack over a period of years in the early 80's . and we would talk and drink till late at night or early in the morning after dicks closed and we wandered up the block to 232 sanchez st . san francisco . durning all of this time i started a series of books that i would have all of these different artists do some work in as we sat and talked and drank and smoked and passed the day and night . and after many years of doing this in many different places i have put together a library . all kinds of books from my travels and the artists that i met , and books on asia and textiles and more .
